When children grow up in difficult circumstances, girls often suffer even more than boys. When a family has few options, it is more likely to let boys still go to school, while the girls soon have to help out at home. If there is any kind of healthy food at all, it is more likely to be given to the boys than to the girls. And when this has been this way for generations, the parents often don't know any better. The only way out for girls is early marriage or the streets. Without an education, they have to earn a living. As a result, girls also often end up in violent and unsafe situations.

10CHILDREN PUNE took place December 2024.

'She' is a collaboration between Rainbow Umbrella Foundation, Seva Sahayog Foundation, Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha and 10CHILDREN. An extensive survey took place in the vastis (slums) of Pune over the past few months, made possible by the Seva Sahayog Foundation. The research focused on the position of girls growing up in socially and financially difficult circumstances. Together with girls and their families, teachers and tutors, stories were shared about their lives, their dreams and ambitions and what hinders them from fulfilling their dreams. Based on these investigations, a theatre script was written, a theatre performance was created, a documentary was filmed and an arts exhibition with artworks by the girls themselves was set up. All these projects were shared with the public on 21 and 22 December 2024 at the venues of the Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha in Pune. The latter organisation is also the partner for the conference that took place on these two days. Liesbeth Coltof, Dennis Meyer and Brechtje Zwaneveld were attending the festival. Brechtje Zwaneveld  wrote an extensive article about this festival for the June 2025 issue of Theater Magazine, the Dutch magazine for professional theatre.

The residents of the adjacent fancy complex have turned it into a scrapyard and dumped old furniture, clothes, books and all sorts of scrap in it.
